Labradorite - 2 to 2.5cm Tumbled Stone

Labradorite is a plagioclase feldspar, a sodium calcium aluminium silicate. Its crystal structure is triclinic, usually in complex aggregates. Its name is derived from the Labrador peninsula in Canada, where the stone was first found in 1770. It is treasured for its remarkable play of colour (labradorescence), which shows vivid flashes of green, blue, gold, orange, red and some times violet. Labradorite is found in Canada, Madagascar, Mexico, Russia and the United States.

Tumble stones are so called because a number of stones of similar sizes are placed in a barrel which is rotated (tumbled) at a speed and after a time between 3 - 5 weeks the stones are polished from rough to smooth. 

(The Tumble stones we sell, have not been tumbled by ourselves)
