Glossopteris, from the Ancient Greek, meaning "tongue” because the leaves were tongue-shaped is the largest and best know genus of the extinct order of seed terms know as Glossopteridales. 




Growing in the Southern Hemisphere during the Permian Period and going extinct during the end Permian Period mass extinction Glossopteris was a woody, seed bearing shrub or tree, some growing approximately 26ft (8m) tall.
