Here at London Fossils and Crystals we use Moonstone as a ‘Ladies’ stone, for ladies trying to get pregnant, pregnancy and child birth.

Moonstone was used in Roman jewellery almost two thousand years ago, and even longer ago in the Orient.

It was a popular choice of jewellers during the Art Nouveau period. In India, Moonstone has always been a sacred stone, with special significance for lovers. It was believed that placing Moonstone in their mouths when the moon was full would allow them to see the future. Moonstone is also a traditional wedding gift there, for bringing harmony to the marriage.

In Europe, Moonstone was said to reconcile estranged lovers, and to cure sleeplessness.

Moonstone is composed mainly of two species from the feldspar group which are the Orthoclase and Albite.   Moonstone is also known as ‘Adularia’, a potassium aluminium silicate, with a  crystal system is monoclinic and prismatic.   Moonstone was named from a mining site at Mount Adular, now called St. Gotthard in Switzerland, with its iridescence its blue-white sheen, which is caused by its lamellar structure.

It is found in Switzerland, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Burma, Australia, India, and the United States.

Here at London Fossils Crystals I sell a wide range of Tumble Stones
Tumble stones are so called because a number of stones of similar sizes are placed in a barrel which is rotated (tumbled) at a speed and after a time between 3 - 5 weeks the stones are polished from rough to smooth.
(The Tumble stones we sell, have not been tumbled by ourselves)
