Bornite is the true ‘Peacock ore’, which is often confused with tarnished Chalcopyrite which is commonly known as ‘Peacock ore”

Bornite is a copper ore consisting of both copper and iron sulphide mineral. Typically found as massive metallic material, it has a copper-red colour on fresh exposures which quickly tarnishes to an iridescent blue / purple after exposure to air and moisture.

Bornite can be found in, Kazakhstan, Congo (Zaire) and Zimbabwe.
