Not discovered until the end of the 1800s and name after it’s discoverer, the French palaeontologist Eugene Dumortier. Dumortierite has become assciated with the planet Uranus because it is believed by some that both crystal and planet bring about change in unexpected ways.

Dumortierite is an aluminium borate silicate mineral, it’s crystal system is orthorhombic. It’s usual growing habits are massive, radiating, fibrous and columnar.

Sometimes it forms prismatic crystals.

It’s colour include dark blue, violet blue and red-brown and can be found in Brazil, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Canada, Poland, France, Namibia and the USA.
